Sustainable and Responsible Jamk

We are making the world more sustainable. We do this together with students, staff and our partners.

Jamk's Roadmap for a Sustainable Future

Jamk University of Applied Sciences' roadmap for a sustainable future focuses on reducing the carbon footprint and, on the other hand, increasing the positive handprint. The roadmap provides guidelines for how sustainable development and responsibility are implemented in education, RDI activities, management and personnel competence.

The carbon footprint is calculated annually at Jamk. Along with the monitoring, measures to reduce the carbon footprint and nature-positive measures will also be agreed upon. The reduction of the carbon footprint can be seen in concrete measures, such as extensive waste sorting on campuses, or consumer-specific measurement of waste food during meals in our campus restaurants.

Sustainable development is already part of all Jamk bachelor's degrees. By 2024, sustainable development will be part of all Jamk's degree education and ultimately included in all education. We also develop our personnel's sustainability and responsibility skills.

We steer RDI activities and focus especially on sustainability challenges. We monitor the number of sustainability-related projects annually. At the same time, we aim to strengthen the impact of RDI activities.

The roadmap has been drawn up together with students and staff. The implementation promotes Jamk's existing commitments and takes into account the proposals of the student union JAMKO.

The roadmap is based on the joint Sustainable, Responsible and Carbon-neutral University of Applied Sciences -programme of Arena and universities of applied sciences.

We Do as We Teach

Sustainable Procurement at Jamk

Sustainable procurement refers to socially, economically and environmentally responsible procurement. Through successful and innovative acquisitions, the organisation can make long-term value choices, increase the vitality of the regional economy and companies, increase well-being and combat climate change.

This is what we are already doing

  • We always check suppliers for reports in accordance with the Contractor's Obligations and Liability Act
  • We follow the principles of the law in all procurements: impartiality, non-discrimination, transparency and proportionality
  • Where possible, we put out to tender procurements below the threshold value, thereby guaranteeing all suppliers the opportunity to offer
  • We use the employment clause in the contract when possible and reasonable
  • We take life cycle thinking into account: e.g. We include in the contract matters concerning the recycling of products at the end of their life cycle.
  • We are already considering, in the context of market dialogue with suppliers, the possibilities of reducing the amount of money in question. the environmental load of a service or product
  • Contracts have a responsible person who follows the contract. In this way, we do not buy unnecessary things and pay for what we need, and the operations also develop during the contract period.

These are our plans

  • The opportunity to utilise used equipment more and more in our operations
  • We will implement the Code of Conduct appendix in our procurements.

We Monitor Our Carbon Footprint

We utilise Arene's common carbon footprint calculation model.
