Project
Sustainable agricultural plastic chain
Project sponsors

The goal of the KeMu project is to develop the use of agricultural plastic waste in a more sustainable direction by benchmarking and piloting new operational models, as well as disseminating information on best practices related to the handling of agricultural plastics. Communication is targeted specifically at different groups within the agricultural plastic chain, using their respective languages and channels.
The project's activities focus on being close to the users of agricultural plastics, taking the whole picture into account. The project utilizes the information, networks, and results produced in the Maatilojen muovit kiertoon (MuKi) project and other projects related to agricultural plastics and sustainability, which are further refined and implemented in practice.
The project collaborates with regional agricultural plastic waste collection efforts and supports their implementation during the collections. Additionally, it benchmarks best practices for handling agricultural plastic waste both domestically and internationally and implements a pilot collection suitable for Finnish conditions in the project area.
The project's activities consider the ecological, economic, and social sustainability of the agricultural plastic waste chain and thereby promote sustainable agriculture, as well as regional entrepreneurship and vitality, from the users of agricultural plastics to those designing new products.
The project will be implemented in the regions of Central Finland and Northern Savonia during 2025-2026, managed by the Bioeconomy Institute of JAMK University of Applied Sciences in collaboration with MTK Northern Savonia, funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development 2023-2027.
