Project description

RDI docking platform is a joint project between the City of Jyväskylä, University of Jyväskylä and Jamk University of Applied Sciences, which seeks to form and establish a research co-operation docking platform. The objective is to enable the acceleration of business RDI activities through a new operating environment (docking platform). The project is based on the Jyväskylä ecosystem agreement's goals as well as each project participant's observed demand for lowering the barrier for the business sector to connect to research organisations' RDI infrastructure and RDI services. Increasing RDI expenditure requires increased RDI effort especially among SME-size companies. Currently, no comparable cross-organisation operating model exists for benefiting from RDI services. Regional universities and the city of Jyväskylä operate in a networked fashion. However, there is no mechanism for cross-organisational handling of individual needs and requests from businesses, for example. This further signifies that there currently is no such encompassing approach to addressing businesses' RDI needs and requirements that would enable combining different research competencies and strengths across organisations.

The project creates the necessary pre-conditions and resources for the new operating model and its processes to be developed and adopted. The project is used to establish new processes and operational models (so-called service paths) that enable business co-operation. Facilitating smooth business co-operation requires new processes to be adopted in all organisations that take part in the project. The project provides the necessary input on what changes are required to utilize RDI infrastructure more efficiently and improve the availability of research services. The project is implemented in work packages with a piloting mindset, closely monitoring business needs and ensuring they are met. The threshold for co-developing and testing new ways of working and new operating models with businesses is kept low.As result, the project offers a permanent new operating environment, with pre-conditions and needs for its further expansion identified and planned for. The permanent change offered by the project is not a static operating model, but a dynamically evolving operating environment, which develops and expands also beyond the projects scope after it is finished. The new operating environment increases the region's RDI investments and accelerates the renewal of business life, and thus creates permanent long-term effects.
