Project description
,,The VesiVarma project will create a common operating model that will safeguard the operations of the smallest water cooperatives in crisis situations. Dealing with disturbances will be practiced together and communication between water cooperatives will be increased to facilitate this cooperation. Water cooperatives planning to acquire remote monitoring are supported in procurement-related issues. Remote monitoring and other digital solutions facilitate the cooperative's daily work and support the planning of operations. The transparency of the operations of water supply companies will be increased by developing the provision of standard-time information to customers.

Project results
,,The VesiVarma project activates water cooperatives to increase mutual cooperation. The cooperation increases the expertise of a small water cooperative and thus improves operational reliability. There are over hundred water cooperatives operating in Central Finland, of which 49 participated in one of the project's measures. Water cooperatives whose own operations are well organised and need for their further development have been recognised were the most active. The competence requirements envisaged for water utilities are not yet binding on water cooperatives. This contributed to weakening the achievement of the project's objectives. Water cooperatives are now going through a period of transition. Getting volunteers to positions of responsibility raises concerns in many water cooperatives.
The VesiVarma project will end at the end of 2023.
