Project description
The project is part of Jamk's Likes Department's Physical Activity Research and Innovations (LTI) project for the years 2024-2026. The project is funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture. In 2025, the project has three sections:
1. Research and Development of Physical Activity Communication
We study communication about physical activity as part of Finnish health communications and disseminate research-based development proposals through various channels to Finnish communications specialists addressing physical activity. Communication about physical activity should consider images, emotions, and attitudes, and utilize research data from psychology and marketing. This section is led by Senior Researcher Maria Rantala.
2. Connection of Psychological Phenomena to Physical Activity
Increasingly, students suffer from mental health symptoms. This affects academic success and increases the risk of sleep disorders and depression. We continue to develop the MieliLiike model that promotes mental health and implement an intervention for 18-29-year-old higher education students, utilizing physical activity, natural environments, and methods supporting motivation and behavior change. This section is led by Chief Specialist Anu Kangasniemi.
3. Culture of Physical Activity and Well-being in Higher Education Environment
The target is the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences community of students and staff. We introduce new elements to the well-being skills of students and staff so that they can maintain their work and functional capacity during their studies and careers. At the same time, we build a strategy and daily operational culture that supports physical activity and well-being in higher education institutions. This section is led by Testing Manager Jarmo Heiskanen.
