Project results

The capacity of
Tribhuvan University (TU) and Nepal Open University (NOU) to enhance equitable
education in Nepal, and to develop and implement online learning, has been
strengthened through the introduction of digital pedagogy and 21st-century
skills across the curriculum at all educational levels. The two new master's
degree programs in Output 1 address the needs of higher education teachers and
classroom teachers, from both pre-service and in-service perspectives. These
programmes enable participants to deliver modern, student-centred education to
their students. The professional development workshops provided in Output 3
empower current in-service university teachers and classroom teachers working
in remote locations to integrate digital pedagogy and 21st-century skills
throughout the country. The guidance and counselling training provided in
Output 2 to secondary-level classroom teachers equips participants to manage
retention issues and reduce the dropout rate of young girls. Importantly, this
subject matter was also incorporated into both of the Output 1 Master of Education
in Digital Pedagogy (MEDP) programmes to ensure it became an integral part of
teacher education.

 Holistically, the
project has contributed to increasing teachers' capacity to work effectively
with digital tools to improve educational provision at all levels in Nepal.
Although the project has now ended, both universities are actively negotiating
with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) to secure the
necessary funding for the continued delivery of these courses and workshops.
