BioBoosters Impact review 2024

The newly released BioBoosters Impact Review 2024 showcases the stories of BioBoosters Hackathons in driving circular innovation within the bioeconomy sectors across the Baltic Sea Region. This publication features nine inspiring innovation journeys from leading bioeconomy companies that participated in the hackathons held during autumn 2023 and spring 2024.

“It has been a pleasure to follow how BioBoosters hackathon has landed successfully all over the Baltic Sea during 2023-2024. The first annual publication, BioBoosters Impact Review, draws together our corporate customers' hackathon paths and steps towards more sustainable and responsible business after hackathons. Success stories from our partners' hackathons show the added value of international cooperation for innovation and prove the effectiveness and scalability of the hackathon model developed in Jamk.” Project manager Anna Aalto, Jamk University of Applied Sciences.

The BioBoosters Hackathons employ a business-driven approach to open innovation, connecting cross-sectoral and international expertise. With the support of nine regional bioeconomy innovation systems, companies addressed critical challenges to improve circularity, sustainability, and profitability. Through collaboration, they formed partnerships and developed innovative solutions that highlight the transformative potential of inter-regional cooperation.

The report delves into the barriers faced, enablers leveraged, and success factors driving the circular transition in the region. It reinforces the value of open innovation and the tangible impact of the BioBoosters initiative on advancing the bioeconomy. The lessons learned from the hackathons boosted by the international innovation community are recounted and the conclusion is clear – BioBoosters Hackathon is making an impact!

The BioBoosters Hackathons are part of the BioBoosters project led by Jamk University of Applied Sciences and co-funded by the Interreg Baltic Sea Program. BioBoosters, which brings together nine bioeconomy innovation networks from the Baltic Sea countries, including Finland, Sweden, the Baltic States, Poland, and Germany. The project organizes 18 Hackathons that support the responsible business and circular economy transition of bioeconomy companies.
