English-language courses were applied in the first joint application process of universities of applied sciences on 4.–18.1.2023. Jamk University of Applied Sciences had a total of 380 starting places in seven Bachelor-level degree programmes and eight Master's degree programmes. In total, according to preliminary data, more than 20,000 applications were submitted to Jamk, which is about double the number compared to last year.

The number of applicants has increased dramatically over the past three years. In all, the popularity of Jamk's Degrees conducted in English has grown more than 7-fold in three years.

"Jamk has been working for a long time to develop and expand high-quality English-language education. Now it's amazing to see how that work bears fruit! Every international student brings a positive heartbeat to Central Finland, both as a user of the region's services and as a future expert! The international campus is certainly the hallmark of a vibrant region," rejoices Minna-Maaria Hiekkataipale, who will start as vice rector for education in March at Jamk.

On average, almost 80 applications per starting place were submitted for Bachelor-level degree programmes. The highest ratio was for Business Information Technology programme focusing on the gaming industry, with as many as 122 applications submitted per starting place, with a total of 3675 applications. The popularity of the tourism industry is also growing strongly: approximately 93 applications were submitted to the Tourism Management degree programme for each starting place. Measured purely in terms of the number of applicants, Tourism Management was the most popular Jamk's degree programmes with 3748 applications. Nursing, which has been popular in previous years, also fits into the top three this year: there were a total of 3517 applications, which means that approximately 88 applications were submitted for one starting place.

Of the master's level trainings, by far the highest number of applications was collected by International Business Management, with a total of up to 1333 applications, which is more than four times the number last year. As many as 66 applications were submitted per study place. The second highest number of applications were submitted for the Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics programme (607) and the Professional Project Management programme (534).

The first joint application process will next continue with entrance examinations, which will be carried out entirely online with the national International UAS Exam for Bachelor's degrees. An exception to this rule are the Degree Programmes in Information and Communication Technology and Business Information Technology, where the admission method used is an admissions study period and an interview at the Open University of Applied Sciences. Applicants for master's degree programmes will be informed about the practices of entrance examinations separately.

The application period for the second joint application is 15.–30.3.2023 and only for Finnish-language degree programmes. Applications are made at www.opintopolku.fi.
