Significant European Commission Funding for Jamk as Part of EUDRES Alliance

EUDRES is developing educational opportunities for its 100,000+ students and aims to strengthen regional centers of expertise.

Jamk University of Applied Sciences was invited last fall to join the EUDRES Alliance as an associated member under the European Universities initiative.

The decision made by the European Commission in July 2023 confirms Jamk's full membership in EUDRES. With this decision, the Commission will provide 14.4 million euros in funding to the EUDRES Alliance for the next four years. In Jamk, there is a total funding of approximately 2 million euros available for EUDRES actions.

As part of its European Universities initiative, the European Commission aims to establish 60 university alliances by 2025 based on evaluated applications. The Commission is funding the program with 1.1 billion euros. Around 10 percent, or approximately 500 European universities, will be selected for the program. Following the decisions made by the Commission in July, there are 50 selected alliances comprising 430 universities.

EUDRES consists of nine universities, including Jamk, that are located in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Latvia, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Portugal. In addition to the core members, the EUDRES network includes six Ukrainian and Western Balkan universities as associated members, as well as 30 European regional development actors, such as the City of Jyväskylä, Central Finland Regional Council, and Central Finland Chamber of Commerce. As a European University, EUDRES is developing educational opportunities for its 100,000+ students and aims to strengthen regional centers of expertise.

For Jamk, EUDRES will provide a strategic framework for education, research, business cooperation, and regional development. According to the Commission's perspective, the goal is for funded alliances to seek new ways for long-term, structural, sustainable, and systematic collaboration in organising higher education. To deepen collaboration, the universities will also establish the EUDRES Association as a legal entity.

EUDRES's activities are organised through extensive work packages, with Jamk having a specific responsibility for a work package focusing on digitalization. Jamk will establish a dedicated EUDRES Office to coordinate broad collaboration and enhance its impact.
