Jamk and Fingrid deepen their cooperation to strengthen cyber security expertise

Jamk University of Applied Sciences and the transmission system operator Fingrid have agreed on cooperation related to the development of multidisciplinary competence and applied research in information and communication technology and cybersecurity.

Jamk and Fingrid Oyj have signed a five-year partnership agreement. The aim of the cooperation is to support the strategic and operational objectives of both parties. Cooperation with Fingrid is also centrally linked to the Jamk's will to develop national cyber security expertise.

Cooperation to promote information and communication technologies, especially related cybersecurity, is very topical due to the shortage of experts in the field and the global situation. According to Tero Kokkonen, Director of the Institute of Information Technology at Jamk University of Applied Sciences, the partnership between Jamk and Fingrid is a good example of cooperation between the university and the business community that serves both parties.

"There is already strong cooperation between Jamk and Fingrid in R&D activities related to cybersecurity and in competence development through cyber exercises. With the partnership agreement signed now, the cooperation will be strengthened and expanded to also cover the degree education at Jamk", Kokkonen says.

"By strengthening cooperation with working life, we can best support the employment of those graduating from the field. At the same time, we can ensure that the skills of the graduates correspond as well as possible to the needs of working life", Kokkonen continues.

"We want to continue to secure the continuity of our socially critical business. This is only possible with the help of skilled professionals. We ensure the availability of qualified personnel through long-term and close cooperation with Jamk", says Kari Suominen, ICT Director at Fingrid.

The practical forms of partnership cooperation may vary depending on the need, but for example, for Jamk's students, the partnership opens up various thesis, practical training and employment opportunities. The content of the agreement can also lead into new kinds of R&D cooperation opportunities.

The partnership agreement was signed on 9 January 2023. The cooperation will start immediately.
