The aim of the DinexHackathon is to find more efficient solutions, technologies and business partners for recovering and recycling the high value metals and critical elements from the liquid washcoat slurries and washing waters generated in the catalyst manufacturing process.
”In ideal case, all these elements would be recovered from the aforementioned waste and recycled back to the process, thus replacing the need for virgin raw materials”, says researcher Ari Väliheikki from Dinex Finland Oy.
Dinex Finland develops catalyst washcoats for ceramic and metal substrates. These parts are key units in after-treatment systems of diesel and gas fueled engines to reduce the harmful exhaust emission such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides to less harmful compounds such as nitrogen, water and carbon dioxide. Dinex Finland is one of the main tech centers of Dinex company providing new catalyst solutions.
”In the Hackathon we expect to find the kind of solutions that can help us improve our process. We want to recover and utilise the high value metals from the side streams of catalyst manufacturing processes more efficiently. We hope that the Hackathon participants can offer multiple solutions to this challenge. Our goal is a solution, which is ecologically and economically sustainable, and can be used in Finland, as well as in other Dinex factories abroad”, states Ari Väliheikki about the cooperation possibilities and expectations of Dinex Finland Oy.
Chief Specialist of Jamk UAS Institute of Bioeconomy, Annimari Lehtomäki tells why participate in DinexHackathon: “The participants get to “acid test” their ideas and receive instant feedback from a potential customer. The hackathon is a possibility for new business opportunities and long-term business cooperation for example in joint product development with the sponsoring company. The finalists have access to experts’ know-how and professional mentoring free-of-charge. Not to mention the networking with other participants and experts!”
Hackathon is open for all interested: companies, research institutes, education organisations, as well as students and other innovators. Applications are requested by September 15th, 2022. After that, teams are chosen for follow-up and to the actual hackathon. The winner or winners of the challenge will be announced on November 10th, 2022.
