Pride Week for the rights of sexual and gender minorities will be celebrated in Jyväskylä on 5–11 September. Jamk University of Applied Sciences also participates in the week's celebrations with rainbow flags waving on campuses. Jamk's rector Vesa Saarikoski is the official patron of the event.
"It is a pleasure and an honour to be part of such an important event. Jamk is a diverse community of more than 9,000 people in total, so naturally equality and non-discrimination are the cornerstones of our operations. Jamk is committed to promoting equality and equal opportunities for members of the Jamk community, both staff and students, to participate, learn and influence," Saarikoski says.
Jyväskylä Pride Week includes a wide variety of events. The week will culminate in a Pride parade and park celebration at Lounaispuisto on 10 September. The yearly parade, which last took place in 2019, has been cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the corona pandemic. The parade will be organised from Jyväskylä Kirkkopuisto on Saturday 10 September at 11 AM. Members of the Jamk community, i.e. students and staff, can gather in the parade under the Jamk and JAMKO flags. The opening speech at the park celebration will be given by Rector Saarikoski.
