Jamk University of Applied Sciences expresses its support for Ukraine

Immediately after the war of aggression launched by Russia, the rectors' organisations of Finnish universities expressed their support for Ukraine and the Ukrainians. The world of higher education, as well as the whole society , is united by a commitment to parliamentary democracy, sovereignty and human rights.

Jamk University of Applied Sciences is an international community with a large number of foreign teachers, experts and students. There are about 650 foreign degree students alone, among them many Russians and also Ukrainians.

“Jamk expresses its support and sympathy for Ukraine and the Ukrainians who have been subjected to an unjust invasion. In a situation like this, emotions are on the surface and the desire to act is great. However, it is necessary to understand that in our own multinational higher education community, no one has any part in the brutal power politics that caused the war. Instead, many need support in a distressing situation which may also cause practical problems,” says Rector Vesa Saarikoski.

There is no immediate threat to Finland or our university. However, the effects of the war are quickly being felt in the economy and, to some extent, in international travel. According to our information, there are currently no Jamk’s students or staff in Ukraine. We will inform you when the information on the effects of the war in Ukraine on our operations becomes more precise. The aim is to minimise and resolve issues that affect the operations of our university.
