DinexHackathon at kickoff stage: four teams chosen to continue in the Hackathon

DinexHackathon aims to find solutions and technology which allows Dinex to reduce the amount of waste as well as recover the critical elements from the industrial residues. The aim of the Hackathon is to find more efficient solutions, technologies and business partners for recovering and recycling the high value metals and critical elements from the liquid washcoat slurries and washing waters generated in the catalyst manufacturing process. The hackathon is organized upon the assignment from Dinex Finland Oy, by Bioeconomy business accelerator of Jamk University of Applied Sciences, in cooperation with Kasvu Open.

Today (October 10th, 2022) DinexHackathon is at kickoff stage. Four teams were selected to proceed in the hackathon: Econet Oy, Sofi Filtration Oy, Owatec Group Oy and SansOx Oy. In the kickoff, the teams presented their ideas to Dinex Finland Oy representatives, Technical Manager Andreina Moreno, Researcher Ari Väliheikki, Senior Researcher Kauko Kallinen, Quality Manager Pasi Juvonen and Laboratory Team Leader Joonatan Korhonen. “The teams’ presentations set our hopes quite high. The presented solutions gave different angles to solve the challenge. We expect an ecologically and economically sustainable solution, that is usable in Finland, as well as in other Dinex factories all over the globe”, says Väliheikki.

During the next four weeks, the teams were asked to focus on technical and schedule questions, such as feasibility of the chosen technology and the need for lab trials, as well as previous experience relating similar cases in water treatment, waste slurry treatment or mining sector. “The teams have now a few weeks to develop their ideas and prepare their pitches for the hackathon jury. In the finale, we hopefully get even several applicable solutions for our challenge”, says Andreina Moreno. The winner or winners of the challenge will be announced on November 10th, 2022.

Dinex Finland Oy develops catalyst washcoats for ceramic and metal substrates. These parts are key units in after-treatment systems of diesel and gas fueled engines to reduce the harmful exhaust emission such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides to less harmful compounds such as nitrogen, water and carbon dioxide. Dinex Finland is one of the main tech centers of Dinex Group providing new catalyst solutions.
