Can I study while unemployed? Can I get government financial support for Jamk Open UAS courses? What benefits do I get? Can I participate in Academic Sports?

Teaching and guidance

When you study in Jamk Open University of Applied Sciences, you will receive university-level teaching and guidance in accordance with the requirements of Jamk's degree programmes. The studies have the same goals, level of requirements and teachers as the degree programmes. You will receive guidance for your studies and their selection.

Financial Support

There are different possibilities to fund the studies, both for unemployed and employed students. Read more about the options in the links below. But, students are not granted government financial support for Jamk Open UAS courses, if they are not entitled to it based on other studies. They do not receive student discounts, either.

Information Systems and Services

Before you start your studies, you will be sent a course letter including your username for the computers and systems of Jamk, as well as your email address. You will have the right to use Jamk’s information and communication systems, such as email, student register (Peppi), and online learning environment (Moodle). Jamk offers you free home use licenses as Windows and Office products during your studies. You can use printers at Jamk, too.

Jamk Library

As an Jamk Open UAS student, you are welcome to become a library customer. The website contains more information about e.g. the library card. There is also an exam studio in the main campus library, which you can use with your own library card.

In Janet Finna you can find the printed and electronic materials of the Jamk library. When you log in using your Jamk username, you'll get access to the e-resources acquired by the library, as well as their remote access.

Your studies include participation in the information acquisition guides in your field.

Practical information to support your studies

Sport

All the Jamk Open UAS students are entitled to use the services organised by uMove Academic Sports of Jyväskylä with a charge. Study path students (Bachelor's level) have also possibility to use JAMKO student union gym. The benefit is available with an electronically certified study certificate, which you can download to your phone from Atomi in Peppi system. Be prepared to prove your identity, too.

 

Meals

Route students (Bachelor's level) have possibility to a discount on meals in Juvenes Jamk Student Restaurants. The discount is available with an electronically certified study certificate, which you can download to your phone from Atomi in Peppi system (see the instructions). Be prepared to prove your identity when using the card. Students in Jamk Open UAS cannot receive a KELA meal support card.

Health care

Study psychologists and the school pastor are at route students' disposal with the challenges and pressures of your studies and everyday life.

Jamk Open UAS students are not eligible for student health care. Please contact the health centre in your area.

Insurance

Jamk Open University of Applied Sciences students with Finnish social security number are covered by Jamk's Voluntary Group Insurance for Accidents insurance. Trainee Insurance does not apply to students of Open University of Applied Sciences. If you are doing a practical training in Open UAS, find out the coverage of the employer's or your own insurance.

JAMKO student union

As of Autumn 2023, Jamk Open UAS students can acquire a green membership in the student union JAMKO. Students can also participate in student events organized by JAMKO and, if they wish, acquire student coveralls.

Housing

Jamk Open UAS students can apply for student housing from the Central Finland Student Housing Foundation (KOAS). However, applicants are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Especially during busy times, degree students come first.

Parking in campus areas

A parking permit is required for campus parking spaces. Parking is supervised and instructed by traffic signs.

A digital parking permit is in use on Main campus and Lutakko from 2.9.2024, and parking will take place with the eParking application, where staff and students log in with their HAKA credentials (Jamk credentials). Download the eParking app to your phone from the app store.

Transcript of records

  • During your studies, you can download an electronically signed transcript of your records from Atomi service in Peppi system.
  • Students in a diploma of higher education or other study module will automatically receive a certificate of studies at their home address upon completion of their studies. If you have lost your certificate, you can order the transcript of your records using the form below.
  • Route students and those who have completed single courses may order the electronically signed transcript using the form below.
  • You can view your completed studies with online banking IDs from the My Studyinfo service.
