PalcNet project had a successful implementation of the 1st Train-the-Trainer program in China

When a busy September flew over, PalcNet project consortium is joyfully sharing a progress news: the first Trian-the-Trainer (hereinafter as “TtT1”) programme of Work Package (WP) 3 was successfully implemented in Jilin, China, through a great teamwork of project partner institutions.

This TtT1 was designed as an intensive process themed in competence- and evidence-based nursing education, student-centered teaching methods, basic of e-learning methodology and utilization of digital tools in palliative care teaching/training. It occurred from 23rd to 27th of September 2024, totally 40 introduction hours, with 28 trainees from 4 China partner institutions and 2 training experts from Jamk participated. The host is Beihua University, China.

Based on the competence framework defined through WP2 activity of PalcNet project, the TtT1 equipped the trainees with the idea of competence-based education teaching and evaluation methods. Jamk TtT1 experts used different pedagogical approaches during the implementation, such as contacting lectures supported by situational activating methods and guiding trainees working within smaller groups. Through the 5-day’s work, the trainees have gained experience in using digital tools in teaching palliative care, also learned to act as “trainers” in e-learning environment for later new trainees. The TtT1 was implemented to reach the goal as being a cornerstone of next specific training in professional development for palliative nursing care.

At the end of TtT1, trainees’ feedback was collected anonmously through an online survey. Overall evaluation of the TtT1 implementation and trainning outcome is excellent. Some testmonias were: “The atmosphere is intense and active, very pleasant learning experience! Team work is delighting; “Very good to be able to improve the theory and skill through practice. The communication and interaction among trainees is sufficient”; and “I think the training content is very good, very meaningful to the palliative care education. It is helpful also to our growth of being educators”. Trainees also commented on what to be further improved for proceeding the next WP3 tasks and future similar training programmes in the survey. All these valuable information will be widely shared among PalcNet project consortium and effectively utilized by upcoming project activities.
