Esteemed colleagues, teachers, students and experts,

GeNEdu project has come far and accomplished aims due to common efforts and excellent collaboration. In developing the new curricula, we were guided by evidence-based knowledge and expertise of the members. Let us continue to cultivate the spirit of evidence-based knowledge in ourselves and our young talents.

We face challenges of the population ageing combined with non-communicable disease burden. Our elderlies deserve best care possible regardless of their situation, background or living area.  We will all be elderly at some point, thus let´s put ourselves in the shoes of an older person already today. Let´s understand the struggles and the facts that bring joy and good quality to the life of an older person. The gains of this project will help all of us to work towards the common goal of giving the best possible care. Excellent modules of gerontological nursing education were developed, which together with innovative pedagogical methods will build the competence of the nursing students to provide quality care. A care that is person-centred and provided with empathy.

Our students are our future. They will be our colleagues in the valued profession of nursing. They are skilful and can be very innovative if we give them the chance. So let´s offer them that chance in all settings, at school and at clinical practice.

And dear students, work towards your goals and care for each elderly person as they would be your own beloved grandparents. Your teachers are there for you to support you in reaching those goals and becoming a gerontological nursing professional that makes a change in this world with every patient. Dear student, you chose a profession in which you work object is the most precious thing humans have - our health. Cherish that and cherish your profession.

Good health and wellbeing for all is our common goal. I can only hope for a future that is peaceful and allows wide collaboration between countries and regions, such as the one we have in this GeNEdu project. I hope for a future that allows us through collaboration to build a better world for our elderly, for our young and for all of us. Our collaboration in the GeNEdu project has brought me new knowledge and skills as well as broadening of the cultural horizons. I am very grateful for that to all of you, dear members of GeNEdu project consortium.
