Responsible Tourism
The continuing education courses in responsible tourism give you the skills to act as a responsible tourism professional in a changing world. Upgrade or update your tourism expertise with knowledge of globally important challenges and current tools for solving them. Learn the basics of responsible tourism to minimize the negative and maximize the positive impact of your tourism activity. The courses require basic understanding of tourism and hospitality. In addition, it is recommended that you complete the Introduction to Responsible Tourism -course (2 ECTS credits) before taking the Responsibility Communication in Tourism -course (2 ECTS credits).
All non-Finnish speakers residing in Finland, Finnish speakers interested in expanding their viewpoint internationally, and international students seeking Nordic examples are equally invited to take the courses.
The courses are fully automatized and can be studied flexibly according to one's own schedule. Registration is possible at any given time. Upon completion of each course, the learner receives a course certificate.
Introduction to Responsible Tourism, 2 ECTS
Responsibility in tourism is a very current and important theme globally. We are all aware of the global challenges concerning finite resources, greenhouse gas emissions, waste management or human rights, just to mention a few. These challenges reflect to tourism as well and the industry also needs to take responsibility to tackle the challenges, minimize the negative and maximize the positive impacts of tourism. This course gives an overview of responsible tourism, what it actually means and how different stakeholders can enhance responsibility in tourism. The central themes of the course are: key concepts and origins of responsible tourism, dimensions of responsibility and tools to enhance responsible tourism.
Responsibility Communication in Tourism, 2 ECTS
With the help of responsibility communication, the organization informs its own personnel, external stakeholders and, of course, its customers about its responsible actions, products, and services. Well-planned responsibility communication based on real actions can improve competitiveness and the organization can stand out from its competitors. In this course, you will learn how to communicate responsible actions effectively. The central themes are the benefits of responsibility communication, effective communication, responsibility marketing, brands, stakeholder and crisis communication, as well as certification as a means of communication.
