Master's Degree
The Sport Business Management programme at Jamk School of Business is a Sport Degree aimed at sports enthusiasts who are working in the sports industry, interested in working with sports, or willing to enhance their knowledge. Join us and study in Jyväskylä, the Sport Capital of Finland!
By completing this sport degree, students will be able to understand the concepts of leading and managing sport organizations, apply marketing concepts to sports, utilize the sport business intelligence to improve business performance and develop effective strategies for sport business organizations. International top sport management professors take care of the courses together with Finnish experts. These studies give you a great chance to expand your international network.
The 90 ECTS MBA programme consists of the following modules: Sustainable Sport Business Management, Management Studies, Research and Development, Electives and Master's Thesis.
The Sustainable Sport Business Management modules include topics such as International Sport Events and Tourism, Economic and Financial Management in Sport, Strategic Management in Sport, Sport Entrepreneurship and Innovations, Sport Marketing and Sales, and Professional Development. The modules cover both the national and international aspects of the sport business industry on an advanced level.
Management studies are compulsory for all Jamk's Master's level business programmes. These studies include Leadership Dynamics and Managerial Accounting courses, which nicely supplement the sport business studies.
The Research and Development module aims to develop students’ competencies throughout the studies, in particular in relation to conducting individual research in the field of sport. The module consists of Research-based Development and Research Method courses. An essential part of the research and development module is to gain an understanding on how to use business intelligence in a sport context.
Students have the possibility to choose elective courses from this Sport Business Management programme, such as International Sport Tourism, Sport Entrepreneurship and Innovations and Sport Operations and Facility Management. Students can also select courses from other Master’s programmes from the Jamk School of Business. In addition to these, there are study options in abroad programmes such as the EASM Student Seminar or the Jamk Leadership Program in Silicon Valley.
The thesis is a research and development project which serves working life in the field of sport. It stresses practical application and supports students’ personal career development. The thesis combines scientific and practical approaches and aims at developing the organizational goals of the selected sport organization.
Sport Business Management student Pavel Zet chose the programme because his dream was to work in the sports industry. During his studies, Pavel has already gotten the chance to work and volunteer at various international events such as the UEFA Nations League, the IIHF World Championship, and the UEFA Conference League.
In order to apply for the programme students are required to have at least two years of working experience in a relevant field. Upon completion of the programme, students will be able to understand the concepts of leading and managing sport organisations, apply marketing concepts to sports, utilize the sport business intelligence to improve business performance and develop effective strategies for sport business organisations.

An applicant can count in work experience until 31 July 2024.
It is not necessary to submit an English language proficiency certificate. The English language skills will be tested at the interview.
The original certificates will be checked at the Student Services in the beginning of studies. The selection is not final until the certificates have been checked.
The student selection is based on the total score of an entrance examination. The entrance examination includes an interview (max. 100 p.) Applicants will be invited to the interview by email.
The individual interview will be organized online via Zoom video conferencing service.
The applicant must score at least 40 points out of 100 points to pass the interview and to have a change to be admitted.
The interview will be held online on 15 August 2024.
The English language skills will be tested at the interview. It is not necessary to submit an English language proficiency certificate.
Results are announced on 20 August 2024 at the latest.

The students for Jamk’s master’s degree programme in Sport Business Management are selected from two selection queues based on their educational background:
If you have completed the bachelor´s level degree outside of Finland you must provide an English language proficiency certificate (see exceptions below) to be eligible.
Applicants who do not have to provide the English language proficiency certificate:
The certificate must be submitted by 24 January 2024, 3.00 pm Finnish time. Only the tests listed below are accepted with no exceptions:
Test results are valid for two years. The test result must be valid until 3 January 2024. If possible, the applicant should choose Jamk University of Applied Sciences as the recipient of the results. Jamk University of Applied Sciences’ TOEFL code is 0719.
If you have the required degree and work experience and you have completed or are completing 55 ECTS credits master's level management studies in Jamk or in higher education institution approved by Jamk you do not have to submit the English language proficiency certificate.

Applying for degree programmes conducted in English at universities of applied sciences (UAS) takes place through an online application.
All applicants who have demonstrated their eligibility will be invited to the entrance examinations.

Entrance examination co-operation
If an applicant applies to both International Business Management and Sport Business Management degree programmes, they will receive only one interview invitation and they need to participate to only one interview. The interview scores are valid for both programmes.
Results are announced in the middle of April at the earliest and on 31 May 2024 at the latest.
