Attendance and Flexibility

Starting from 1 August 2024, first- and second-year studies will have an 80 % attendance requirement. This means that you are required to attend at least 80 % of the teaching hours offered. However, if you have difficulties obtaining a residence permit by the beginning of the autumn semester, Jamk offers you the possibility to study remotely for at least 15 ECTS credits during the autumn semester of 2024. We expect you to be able to continue your studies on campus in the spring semester. This means that the online study mode will not be possible from January 2025 onwards. You can and should study in-class as soon as you receive the residence permit.

By participating in lessons, you will learn important work-life skills such as teamwork and interaction skills and get to know your fellow students.

If you need to be absent for compelling reasons, such as illness, you can discuss and agree on justified absences with your teachers. 

Further studies

After accumulating at least two years of work experience post-graduation, you're eligible to apply for master's degree studies. You can also further your education by applying for university master's degree programs or similar offerings. Moreover, a bachelor's degree from a university of applied sciences opens doors to higher education institutes abroad for master's-level studies. Continued education opportunities include specialization studies, open courses, an online study portal (CampusOnline), and career-oriented continuing education. 

A graduate with a master's degree from a university of applied sciences can apply for postgraduate studies in science or arts at universities (Act 558/2009, Section 37).

Entry requirements: Purchasing and Logistics Engineering

Eligibility to apply for higher education studies can be obtained with:

  • the studies required for graduating from the Finnish upper secondary school and Matriculation Examination (or only the Finnish upper secondary school)
  • a Finnish vocational qualification
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) degree, Reifeprüfung (RP) degree, Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) degree or European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma
  • a Finnish vocational college diploma or higher vocational diploma
  • foreign degree/qualification which gives eligibility for higher education in the awarding country.
  • higher education degree (bachelor's level or master's level)

You can apply even if your high school/senior secondary school degree certificate is completed during the spring/summer of applying. It is NOT necessary to provide a language proficiency certificate. The English language skills will be tested at the entrance examination.

Required enclosures:

  • copies of the original degree certificates (high school/secondary school/higher education)
  • authorised translation of the certificate if needed (in English, Finnish or Swedish, the translation must have the translators' signature and stamp)

Entrance examination

All students, 100%, are selected by entrance examination. Applicants will be ranked by the points awarded for the examination.

Entrance examination will be held on 6 August 2024 at 2.00 pm Finnish time only in Jyväskylä, Finland (Jamk UAS Main Campus, Rajakatu 35, 40200 Jyväskylä, Finland). Exam invitations will be send by email few days before the exam, so please mark the date already on your calendar.

The entrance examination consist of

  • part I: mathematics etc. min. 7/20 points
  • part II: English language min. 7/20 points

The entrance examination consist of two parts (Part I Mathematics, logical deduction and learning prerequisites, Part II English language). 

The entrance exam measures readiness for studying and suitability for technical fields (logical reasoning ability as well as fundamental knowledge of mathematics). The mathematics tasks are based on the curriculum of either vocational school or general mathematics in upper secondary school. 

If you fail to reach the minimum point level in any of the examination parts, you will be disqualified from the entrance examination.

The exam begins at 2:00 pm. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before so there is enough time to check your identity document. In the exam, you may use conventional writing and drawing tools (pen, eraser, ruler, square, protractor). The use of calculators during the exam is strictly prohibited.

Results of student selection: Steps for new students

Results are announced on 9 August 2024 at the latest.

  • Accept the offer of admission by the given deadline at studyinfo.fi 
  • Enrol for attendance/non-attendance
  • NON-EU/EEA citizens: pay the tuition fee payment as soon as possible. There are no tuition fees for Finnish or other EU/EEA citizens.
  • Studies will begin in 19 August 2024.

Learning logistics not only helps you to understand how a company operates and develops, but most importantly, how to save and make money from a practical point of view. The knowledge I gained at Jamk, helped me a lot as I worked on projects. I learned how to adapt and apply theories into practice.

Short step-by-step instructions on how to apply. The students for Purchasing and Logistics Engineering are selected from two selection queues:

  1. International UAS Exam: 75% of study places
  2. Certificate-based selection, Finnish Matriculation examination: 25% of study places

1. Application time 3 – 17 January 2024 by 3.00 pm on Studyinfo.fi

You can apply with upper secondary school certificate or with a higher education certificate. You can also apply even if your secondary school degree certificate is completed during the spring of applying (high school / senior secondary school certificate). Jamk uses also discretionary admission.

Apply online 3 - 17 January 2024 by 3.00 pm Finnish time (UTC+2) on studyinfo.fi.

To be selected by the International UAS Exam, you must submit an English language proficiency certificate by 24 January 2024, 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.

2. Deadline for the enclosures 24 January 2024 by 3.00 pm

The required enclosures need to be attached to the online application form by 24 January 2024 by 3.00 pm Finnish time (e.g. as pdf/jpg/png -files).

To be selected by the International UAS Exam, you must submit also an English language proficiency certificate by 24 January 2024, 3.00 p.m. Finnish time.

3. International UAS Exam

International UAS online Entrance examination concerns Jamk's International Business, Tourism Management, Nursing, Purchasing and Logistics Engineering & Automation and Robotics.

The International UAS Exam will be held online 21 March 2024.

The entrance examination assesses the applicants’ abilities to study in universities of applied sciences. The entrance examination does not contain any pre-reading materials or pre-tasks. Applicant must score minimum points in order to be selected for admission.

English language profiency certificate

In order to be considered for selection by the International UAS Exam, the applicants have to prove their English language skills by 24 January 2024, 3.00 pm Finnish time. Read more from How to Apply for Bachelor's degrees (Who can apply? -> International UAS Exam: English language requirements) .

Identification documents

The applicant needs a valid, acceptable identification document to be able to participate in the International UAS Exam. The passport/identity card has to be valid until 21 March 2024. The following documents are accepted as proof of identity:  

  • A passport
  • A biometric EU/EEA identification card

Submitting the identification document

  • You have to submit the number of your passport or EU/EEA identification card to the application form during the application period.
  • In addition, you have to attach a copy of that document to your application form on 24 January 2024 at 3:00 pm Finnish time (UTC+2) at the latest.
  • You must attach a copy of both sides of the EU/EEA identification card to your application form.
  • If the information you submit is incorrect or you do not submit this information to the application by the given time limit, you cannot identify yourself in the exam.

4. Certificate-based selection (completed in Finland)

Finnish Matriculation examination

The certificate-based selection concerns applicants who have completed or will be completed during spring of applying:

  • the Finnish matriculation examination (completed in Finland)
  • International Baccalaureate diploma (IB)
  • European Baccalaureate diploma (EB)
  • Reifeprüfung (RP) diploma completed in Finland or 
  • Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) diploma completed in Finland.   

Admission is based on the points awarded from matriculation examination.

  • Those selected based on matriculation examination certificate do not need to provide an English language proficiency certificate.
  • The results of the certificate-based selection will be published by 27 May 2024 at the latest.
  • If the applicant wants to have a chance to be selected by both certificate-based selection and international UAS Exam, they must attend the UAS Exam which is held before the results of the certificate-based selection are published.

5. Results and accepting the study place

Results are announced end of March at the earliest and on 31 May 2024, at the latest.

Please,

  1. accept the study place on studyinfo.fi
  2. enrol for attendance/non-attendance on studyinfo.fi
  3. NON-EU/EEA citizens: pay the tuition fee payment as soon as possible
  4. start the residence permit (if needed) application process immediately in April to be able to start your studies in August. The residence permit application process might take time over 2 months, so be in time!

The final deadline to accept the study place, enrol for attendance and pay the possible tuition fee is 11 July 2024 by 3:00 pm Finnish time. There are no tuition fees for Finnish or other EU/EEA citizens.

Studies will begin in the middle of August 2024. Please, arrive to Jyväskylä, Finland by that time!
