Project description
In 2022–2023, the Jamk University of Applied Sciences and the student union JAMKO, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Culture, implemented the Equal and United University of Applied Sciences project, which develops the communality of the school and the progress of students' studies, attachment to studies, and the development of self-direction and life management skills.
The goals of the project were to
- reinforce unity and equality in student groups and the whole community in the UAS
- develop tutoring and mentoring
- recognize the support needs of students
- develop students' self-initiative, learning of leading yourself and the easily accessible support services that help you to develop your life management skills
- support students that have learning difficulties
- reinforce teachers, tutor teachers and mentors' knowledge to meet with and guide students that have difficulties with their well-being and learning, and also support the unity in their own study groups
Equal and United University of Applied Sciences have been operating with funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture (special grand). The project was implemented from 1.1.2022 to 31.12.2023.
Project results
The YYamk- project developed a mentoring-based model to support tutors of JAMKO. During the project the number of mentors at JAMKO multiplied. There are currently 8 mentors working at JAMKO.
The YYamk -project developed and piloted a compassion metoring model in cooperation with Nyyt ry. As a result of the project, comapssion mentoring was built into a course offered to higher education students through the Edufutura cooperation.
We developed Study together -studygroup model in the project. Study grous are currently operating at two campuses of Jamk for the academic year. The goal of the studygroup is to offer quidance and peer support.
In the YYamk -project we developed principles of a safer space for JAMKO and Jamk. The aim of the priciples is to strengthen the sense of community and diversity of the community and help us to create safe environment for the Jamk community.
In the YYamk- project we developed Jamk´s individual support process into an electronic process. In addition, we developed the process of individual support for mathematics and language studies.
In the YYamk project we piloted special need teachers services at Jamk.
