TeopuuKS
Development of industrial wood construction in Central Finland (TeopuuKS) project produces information and develops industrial wood construction practices and networks in Central Finland.
Development of industrial wood construction in Central Finland
The growing use of wood as building material requires a change in the thinking and operating culture of the construction industry and the development of the entire value chain of industrial wood construction, as it differs from other construction and its processes are not yet established.
The development of industrial wood construction in Central Finland project aims to develop know-how in industrial wood construction and thereby growth in the province. The project produces information about alternative cost- and energy-efficient production and operating models, taking into account the entire life cycle of industrial wood construction.
The background of the project is the ambitious goals set for public new construction to increase the market share of wood construction, as well as the regional, national and EU low-carbon goals. The increasing use of wood as a building material requires the construction industry to change its way of thinking and operating culture, as well as the development of the entire value chain of industrial wood construction, because it differs from other construction and its processes are not yet established.
The project is a group project executed by Jamk University of Applied Sciences, the Jyväskylä Educational Consortium Gradia and the Finnish Forest Centre.

The project increases the procurement know-how of industrial wood construction in the municipalities and cities of the Central Finland region, cooperation between the public and private sectors, the business opportunities of SMEs in the construction industry in the industrial wood construction networks, and the training know-how in industrial wood construction of secondary and higher education organizations in the region.
The project builds, expands and strengthens national and international networks and produces new information for the various parties in the order-delivery chain. The general production and operating models developed in cooperation between educational and research organizations and companies promote a change of attitude of SMEs in the field and the introduction of new technologies, improve capabilities to participate in industrial wood construction networks and order-supply chains, and enable an increase in product and process innovations. In terms of public procurement, the project increases awareness of alternative solutions and costs of industrial wood construction. The aim is to make public construction more common in Central Finland. The project will also explore suitable models for industrial wood construction to develop cooperation between the public and private sectors. The models produced in the project can be used in the development of teaching at both vocational secondary level and university of applied sciences level, which will respond to the shortage of experts in the field.
The project responds especially to the carbon neutrality goals of the province of Central Finland by promoting the capabilities and know-how of the region's operators - both customers and suppliers - in industrial wood construction. The project brings together national and international operators of industrial wood construction and builds a cooperation and expertise network between them. In the longer term, the project enables the development of a business ecosystem in central Finland that promotes sustainable development and the green transition, built around industrial wood construction.
The project is a group project of the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, the Jyväskylä Educational Consortium Gradia and the Finnish Forest Centre, which aims to develop the processes and expertise of industrial wood construction and thus growth in the province.
